Fun Facts about FIAT

FIAT is known for its unique and fun style of cars. The company was first based in Italy, but FIAT S.p.A merged with the US in 2014 and is now FCA US (previously Chrysler LLC). For being such a fun and interesting company, we decided to share some fun facts about FIAT.

1. FIAT Used to Manufacture Carriages and Railway Engines

FIAT was founded in 1899 and during that time they started out making carriages and engines for trains. They also worked a lot with the military, especially during WWII, where they worked on building military vehicles and plane engines for the Italian army.

2. FIAT Has Acquired Multiple Other Automakers

FIAT acquired Lancia in 1968, became the shareholder of Ferrari in 1969, took control of Alfa Romeo from the Italian government in 1986, purchased Maserati in 1993, and became the full owner of Chrysler Group LLC in 2014. I don’t know if you can tell but they definitely have a lot on their plate.

3. The FIAT 500 was one of the Smallest Cars in the World

With a length of 127 inches, the width of 50 inches, and a height of 54 inches, the small car gained the nickname “topolino” which means, little mouse. Topolino is also the Italian name given to Disney’s Mickey Mouse. If you put the two side by side, they complement each other perfectly.

4. The FIAT 500L has an Optional Coffee Maker

Italy is known for their coffee, so why wouldn’t an Italian brand put an espresso machine right in their car? In 2012 FIAT did just that with the 500L which can be fitted with an integrated espresso machine. Having to wait for your coffee in the morning has become a thing of the past with technology like this.
