On July 9th, local bands “The Wild War” and “Wild Apples’ opened for You Me & Apollo and they really set the mood for the night!
First the Provo born band, Wild Apples took the stage and had the audience on their feet with catchy songs like “By The Trees” and “My Country My Kingdom” with amazing vocal harmonization from front man Michael Barker, bass player Archie Crisanto, and guitarist Jack Mergist. Though most of their set was a mix of rock and comedy with Barker and Mergist friendly banter onstage making the crowd laugh, they had a mix of jazz with songs like “His First Sunrise” as their saxophone player Mark Henderson impressed the crowd with his smooth solos flowing through the entire set list.
Once they left the stage, it almost seemed impossible for another band to be able to top what the Wild Apples had performed, but then just from they’re first song, the crowd fell in love with The Wild War.
Salt Lake natives, The Wild War, gave a different and unique sound that was perfect to set up the rest of the night with You Me & Apollo on it’s way. The Wild War was actually one of the first local bands I had started to follow, and I loved them from the start. Front man and guitarist Kevin Edwards belts out every song leaving you jaw dropped and thinking ‘wow’. A personal favorite of mine, “The Architecture” will have your foot tapping and your body rocking back and forth while Edwards serenades you with honest, pure poetry.
